Have you seen that commercial where the lady jumps into the back of a police car thinking it’s a taxi? That’s how I felt this morning. My wakeup call comes way too early . . especially since I stayed up til after 1 a.m. trying to get more progress done on the baby blanket and the air conditioner woke me up at 5 and the air conditioner repairman tells me “that’s just how that brand sounds”! Vince is calling him to come back today . . it’s way too noisy when it shuts off. Anything that wakes me up has to be really loud!
I was going out, in my usual half awake state, and I saw what I thought was a huge turtle. I ran back in the house to get Vince and to get my camera. What a great blog post I was going to have . . a giant turtle in my yard! At this point, I realized I didn’t have my glasses on. I usually put them on before even getting out of bed and keep them on til I turn off the lights to go to sleep. There’s a good reason why I wear glasses! I told Vince “Come see what’s in the yard!”
He was a bit apprehensive because he wasn’t sure what was out there . . snake, mountain lion, coyote . . could be most anything around here.
But as we cautiously walked up to the turtle, things looked completely different than they had looked without my glasses.
Do you see how it kinda looks like a turtle?
It is not a turtle! It’s a stump! A stump with a “head” that makes it look like a turtle to an old lady without her glasses!
We must get that stump grinder out here and grind down about 200 stumps and I must never again leave the house without my glasses!
Connie says
I can see the turtle!

It looked like a turtle to me. . . . at least until you did the close up.
FYI, I’m wearing my glasses & have been up for about 6 hours. . . .guess we have the same eyes!! LOL
Debbie says
I thought it was a turtle, too! I have my extra eyes on, too!

Great story, Judy. Love the giggle this morning. Yes, I could see that giant turtle also!
Regina says
It IS turtle – that’s petrified of the lady without her glasses!!! 🙂
I would have had the same problem… though without mine I would not have even seen the turtle – just lots of blur!

ROFLOL!!!! Of course – I would play the turtle angle up – give that poor stump a camoflauge green stain and draw lines on it to simulate the lines on a turtle’s shell! And if I was REALLY into the idea – I could even put up a sign (tiny one) with the name “Pfred” or “Phineas” next to your “turtle” LOL – and don’t believe I wouldn’t do it! My kids know me better!
Linda says
I agree Helen. I was thinking the same thing!!!
Laura says
Yes! Make it into yard art!
Sandy K says
I think this is a fun idea!

It looked like a turtle to me too. Just this morning, I saw a black animal in the pumpkin patch, turns out that it was just a dead poinsettia that got dumped out there yesterday. I did not have my glasses on either.
Sherry says
I would clean around the stump and mulch it so your turtle is very visible. Your grandbaby will love it and it’s a conversation piece.
Linda in NE says
It DOES look like a turtle, especially from a little distance. Why not touch it up with a little paint to really make it look like a turtle and call it yard art? Just to see how many second looks it gets.
Ranch Wife says
LOL! Not laughing AT you, just with you. ANd yes, it DOES look like a turtle. Wait until you see what I’m going to post a bit later. I really ought to make a road trip and put it in your yard and wait until you come outside without your glasses again.

I swear you must know when my day is going slow ROFLOL I am thankful for you, almost every day LOL LOL. I do agree you should touch it up with paint and mulch and emphasize it!! It really looks like a turtle 🙂 It is now a famous landmark !!!!!
Sunny says
LOL, well Judy, i would leave it and maybe paint it like a turtle. Then you’d always have one there. Thanks for the smiles today!
Sandy K says
Since i also saw the turtle I really had to laugh at the what it really was picture.

I can see the turtle! You reminded me of the time I saw a bear in the woods at Aunt Margarets house- Aunt Margaret lived way up in the mountains in a log cabin and when I was 8 or 9 we were visiting an I saw a bear- ran all the way back to the cabin to get Daddy and it turned out to be a stump too! I’ll bet that they got my glasses checked soon after that. 🙂
Becky in VA says
Too funny!
Trina says
I thought it was a turtle too. Until the close-up. LOL> Thank you for the laugh.

hmmm – Judy – a thought here – you said you had several stumps – well, you can paint one as a turtle, another as maybe a baby skunk, maybe you can have a Large Frog – you know, let your imagination run wild! You can have a lot of fun with this!!!!
patti says
it’s very obviously a turtle. we live in the woods so I often see things that aren’t there. when we have visitors we always tell them about our neighbor’s black dog that is always near the side of the road. we call him “barky” and one of our friends was so into it that she rolled down the window and was barking at him! I got a picture of her but wasn’t fast enough to catch it on video. he’s a stump that’s fallen over, just wish I had a website so I could share.
Vivian says
Yep, without my glasses, it would be a turtle.
Linda Steller says
I do have my glasses on, and I thought it was a turtle! 😉

Join the club Judy. Just a few mornings ago I was talking sweetly to a little bunny out by my driveway. It was so still and alert.Turns out that it was a molehill that had appeared overnight.

I read your posts in reverse order and thought the ‘last’ one with the conversation with Vince was funny. You make my day with the humor.
