Can you see that little watermelon? It has a long ways to go but there are quite a few of them out there. By the end of the day yesterday, the stripes on the melons were very visible. There are quite a few cantaloupe too. I so hope a few of them make it to maturity (and to my plate!).
My next big harvest is going to be purple hull peas. The plants are loaded with peas and they’re full of blooms. The recent rain has helped everything in the garden so much.
I asked Vince last night if he would tell me when he gets tired of squash. We have yellow squash that needs picking every day. I will freeze some of it for squash casserole but it’s so good when it’s fresh.
We are so lucky to have had good rainfall twice in the past two weeks. My garden is very thankful!

Have you noticed that the plants, be it your garden, yard or what ever respond so much better to the rain than to when you water it? It is like it is a different kind of water. I know my hard sure looks 10 times better after a rain, than when I just water with the hose. Yes your garden looks wonderful. I can smell that squash, and purple hull peas. Can’t get any better eating than that.

You are so lucky to get the rain. My garden is slowly going brown. I am keeping my tomatoes watered. I got one cuke today, they seem to be growing inspite of having very little rain.

Have you ever put up Squash Pickles. Very similar to Bread and Butter pickles. Easy, tasty.

My garden got flattened by the storms here last night. Most of the corn is down, several of the tomatoes are down, the potatoes took a beating. Not a good garden day. :>(

I always enjoy hearing about your wonderful garden bounty. My granddaughter would want to go stay with you when the watermelon and cantaloupes are ripe….she loves both of them. LOL

Hi, Judy, I’ve lost your email address, please send it.
I’m obsessed with your blog, I’m reading it all (except the menus) from oldest forward and I’m in Sept., 2007. At that point I’m getting no photos, just a black box with a with a white triangle and a white exclamation point in the triangle….disappointing, I love the photos. I think it was 9/25/07 that the photos stopped, maybe a couple days earlier. I’ve tried right click but I can’t open them. Have they been removed or am I doing something goofy?

What is your Squash Casserole recipe???
We love to just saute the squash, zucchini, onions and peppers with a little olive oil, touch of butter, salt and pepper, sprinkle of sugar and italian seasoning. Healthy and yummy.
But when we want something different we make Squash patties
2 cups grated yellow squash
1/4 cup self-rising flour
1/3 cup self-rising cornmeal
1 small onion, chopped fine
1 egg, beaten
pepper to taste
Mix all ingredients together. Spoon out into hot greased frying pan ( I use olive oil). Brown on both sides till crispy and drain on paper towels. My husband and I can make a meal of just these in the summer. Add a few slices of fresh tomatoes and we are in heaven.
Enjoy you blog
