This morning I was choosing the white fabric for the Sweet Treat project, it struck me how picky I am about my white on white fabric. I like one that’s a bit thicker so seam allowances don’t show through, and I detest those that have the flaky type designs that come off while sewing or quilting them. I’ve had favorites through the years. The first one I loved was the Itty Pritty Polka Ditty by Lakehouse.
Maybe I’m hoarding a bit because I have two full bolts left and this partial bolt and I’m having a hard time using it because it’s no longer available and when it’s gone, well . . it’s gone forever. But really . . what good is it if I don’t use it so . . I’ll use it . . some day when the perfect project comes along.
Next I loved the Simply Delicious Milk Squares by Holly Pridemore for Blank.
Just like the Lakehouse fabric, this one is no longer available and I have maybe 3 yards left of it. I’m not sure I can bring myself to use it . . 3 yards isn’t much and it will be gone forever. Sad!
So . . any guesses as to my current favorite that’s still available and seems to find its way into almost every quilt I make?
Yep, you guessed right. Dimples by Andover. I love that fabric. This morning I was trying to convince myself to use some of the white on white pieces that I have. How am I ever going to use those if I keep going back to the Dimples fabrics? Beats me . . Dimples won out and the white on white Dimples will be what’s in my Sweet Treat quilt.
Do you have a favorite white on white fabric? If so, why do you love it?

I would have used the Dimples too..and saved the others for the new grandbaby quilt 🙂 I love Dimples!!!!

my favorite is one I actually found at JoAnn’s. It’s a polka dot too – but they are random sized polka dots in random order (still, all small dots though). I’m using it in my Urban 9-patch quilt, and I think if I see it again, I’ll buy the whole bolt 🙂 With a coupon of course!

I love anything Dimples. So far I’ve only found it at one San Diego area shop. I also llike polka dots.

Do you know of a good online shop for dimples? I have found a couple but some only carry a handfull of colors and the one that I saw that has a lot of colors does not carry white.
Any recommendations?

I found an only shop that has tons of Dimples: http://www.oldcountrystorefabrics.com/
however, I cannot find white on white anywhere. This fabric is way too cool in the other colors!
JudyL says
There are lots of places that have it. Gail Kessler has it ALL, including WW which is the white I like – http://ladyfingerssewing.com/shopping_cart/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=49

White on White is my favorite fabric. Weird, maybe, but true. Whenever I hit an actual fabric store I always have to buy a yard of white on white. I use it in a lot of things (though lately I’ve been playing with darker colors and no white at all…).
Mostly I like anything white on white by Blank. Lately I notice I’ve moved away from the little flowery ones toward snowflake ones.

What’s the current line from Blank that has a good white on white?

I’m with you, Judy, Itty Bitty Polka Ditty was my fvorite WOW for a long, long time. I also loved their Champaign dots.
In checking the stash i have 5 hoarded yards of the Lakehouse Cream on Cream Frosted Dots yardage,(Lakehouse03035) which was the successor to the Champaign dots.
one thing i’d love to see again is a light grey on gray frosted dots. i only have 1 yard from the Durham collection, and i need 4 more.
pdudgeon says
further check of the stash reveals 4 yards of white on white Lakehouse 03035,(but no more Itty Bitty) and the Durham Collection is white dots on gray—but still beautiful.

I am like you Judy I usually buy a good amount of white on white when I find one I like. If I have trouble finding something like a gray or a particular cream that I might use in a background I do the same thing and buy 5 yeards when I do catch one.
My small quilt group does a ‘shop your friend’s stash’ exchange twice a year as a way to get rid of things we bought and jazz up our own stash without spending and $. It is usually very successful and rarely do any of us ever have uglies to trade.
Peg says
Judy, your “pickiness” sounds like common sense to me. I feel the same about my WOWs! 🙂
JoAn GODFREY says
i have MANY WOW daisies. any style or size.
my mother was named Daisy. when she was sick i made a jewel box quilt for her with a daisy WOW. i bought that for a couple years until i couldn’t find it anymore. now i have a large collection of daisy WOW’s. every project i make gets a heart of one of the fabrics appliqued on the back in memory of mom.
Kelli says
I love any WOW that is polka dots. I am not as particular with the thickness of the fabric though. Something about those dots.
Not that I would want to discourage your hoarding, but you can still buy Lakehouse White on White Itty Bitty Polka Ditty Yardage here:
