I have two newsworthy events to share and they certainly are not listed here in order of importance or excitement!
First, I got a call from my editor this morning telling me that 60 Pieced Quilt Borders is going to its second printing. She said this is about as fast as they’ve ever had a book go to second printing. I know that a whole lot of that is because you, my loyal blog readers, have purchased it and asked for it at your local quilt shops and I appreciate that so much! Thank you all and thanks again to American Quilter for giving me this opportunity.
Second, I’m going to be grandma! Chad and Nicole got the cart ahead of the horse but they are expecting a baby. I was in Louisiana when they called last week to share the news. I think they’ve both be dreading telling us and Nicole’s parents. I didn’t dare say anything on the blog til I was sure all Nicole’s family knew because the last thing I wanted was for her family to hear it from someone in Nevada who read it on my blog. They assure me that everyone has been told and I can share the news.
I absolutely love Nicole to pieces and as aggravated as I was at them for this happening before they were married, I’m thrilled to know that she will be my daughter-in-law. I’m happy that her family (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, sister) have taken Chad in and treat him like family. I’m not so happy that I’m so far away but I’m thinking there will be lots more trips back to MO in my future.
Alycia says
Congrats Grandma!!!!
Jennifer says
Congratulations!! Can’t wait to see the baby quilts!!!
Vivian says
Definitely worth talking about!! Congrats on both! Grandbabies are always much nicer when they live closer, but you do what you have to do, to see them as often as possible.
bcinindy says
wonderful, wonderful – I see lots of baby knits in your future.
Congratulations!!!
Donna says
Congratulations!! Especially on the grand baby!! I’m just thinking this baby will be blessed with quilts for every occasion.

Amber R says
Congrats! I’m so happy for you and your growing family! Will they find out if you need to make pink or blue quilts?
Sandy says
Congratulations, Judy! I am so happy for you on both accounts. You will be an awesome grandma! Wonderful news to share with us today on both accounts.
Denise ~ justquiltin says
Congratulations on both counts! Hm….a new book of baby designs?
Diana in TX says
Wonderful news on both counts! They need to find jobs in Texas closer to you!!!!!
Susan Torrens says
Congratulations on the success of your latest book as well as the news of the new family member, Grandma!
I’m envious, but with my youngest son getting married next week, I’m hoping that I can join the club soon…… They plan on having a family, but have to get a little time in their jobs first before planning maternity leave. He started a new job a couple of months ago, and hers starts 1June, so maybe 2013 will be my year!
Ruth says
Congratulations! Being a Grammie is even better than being a mom. Don’t worry about the distance. You’re far enough away so that you will stay for a week and you’ll really get to know your grand. I’m in NJ, daughter is in MN, and I’m so close to my grand, closer than the grands we visit for a few hours at a time.
Doreen says
I am so happy for you and Vince!-) And, yes, it opens up whole new vistas/directions for quilt ideas. AND a huge congrats on your book!!! Well deserved, may I add!! Wow! What a Friday, hmmmmm? Hugs, Doreen p.s. The “cart before the horse” thing hits us all at one time or another. Their choice not ours. And, of course, what’s done is done…..we just continue to love ’em to pieces! (smile).
CindyM says
Congratulations on both counts! Our daughter is 26 and has been with her 28 year old boyfriend for a little over 5 years. I’m not sure of the delay of marriage (some things I’m wise enough not to bring up), but I wonder if they are waiting until they are ready to have a family. We never lived close to my parents when our daughter was growing up, but she was very close to that set of grandparents (now both gone)… they visitied, we visited, and when she was 6, we started to let her fly to visit my parents for a week by herself.. That week she spent on the Iowa farm alone with my parents was precious to everyone. She has so many of my mom’s traits — and I can’t help but think it’s because of their time together, even though they lived 800 miles apart.
Nan says
Conratulations Grandma and Grandpa!
Melanie says
So happy for you. My daughter surprised us, too. He is 10 months old and there could not be a sweeter baby. Grandchildren really are the best! They will love visiting Grandma and Grandpa’s “farm”.
Brita says
Happy, happy news! Best wishes, Granny 😀
Becky in Georgia says
Congrats! Babies add such love to families!
Karin says
Congratulations!!!!!! It will be so much fun to spoil a grandbaby! My husband and I did things all backwards too – bought a house, got pregnant, then got married, LOL. We’ve been together 25 years now though, so it’s all good 🙂 I definitely think there will lots more trips back to MO!
Donna S (in MI) says
Yay! What exciting news.
julie says
Congratulations Grandma!! Oh, I see lots of baby quilts in your future!!!
Ellie says
What great news on both fronts! The book is certainly worth a second printing and more.
And for you and Vince to be grandparents is the best!! I can’t wait to see the baby quilts–maybe a new book? And the knitted sweaters, hats, booties, whatever! Grand babies are the best and I know they will love the Yellow Jacket Ranch.
Helen B. Ellen says

Linda in NE says
Well, congratulations on both fronts. And don’t worry about the cart before the horse thing. Happens that way for lots of young people now days, and always did for that matter. It’s just that nobody was so open about it in the past.
You will definitely want to visit more often once there’s a grand-baby to play with, but if you can’t as often as you’d like there’s always Skype. Lots & lots of far-flung families use it to stay in touch.
Lee Ann L. says
Congratulations! So happy for you. 🙂
Kristen says
YEAH FOR YOU!!! Isn’t it wonderful to get good news!!! I have a feeling this baby is going to have all kinds of beautiful quilts and knit booties, sweaters, afghans..oh think of all the fun stuff to make! 🙂
Leslie Sorenson says
Congratulations! Happened that way in our family, too. The engagement was in January, wedding plans began for Hawaii in July, baby announcement (oops!) in May. You do the math. Result: One incredible daughter-in-law whom I love to pieces and 7 years later, two adorable grand-daughters.
Karen Langseth says
Congratulations Grandma!!
Winona says
Judy, congratulations on both of these events. You deserve the book thing. You worked hard for it. Being a grandma is amazing. You and Vince will love being able to spoil the baby, then he/she goes home to mama and daddy. LOL You know this means a special baby quilt is needed. (grin)
Erin says
Congratulations to Chad and Nicole and to all the family! I can’t wait to see what kind of baby projects you take up now that baby is on the way 🙂
Dee Dee says
Can you get a building permit to have another home built on your 40 acres? Be nice to have all three of them so close. Congrats.
Regina says
Congratulations !!!!
Dar in MO says
Congratulations to Chad and Nicole first, then to you and Vince as grandparents and to you for your wonderful book. Life can’t get much better for you ‘all. That is going to be the most pampered baby in town. What fun you are going to have designing new items for him/her to wear and wrap up in. I hope Chad gets a fishing buddy and you get a future quilter (of course that means there will need to be another baby too).! 🙂
Bon says
I’m thinking the fishing buddy could also be a future quilter. I love both.
Krista says
What great news, on both counts. Congratulations!
Bev in MI says
Congrats Grandma-to-be! Not surprized about the book — it’s a great one.
Just yesterday at bee one of the girls brought in pictures of her very new first grandbaby, and the conversation turned to how sometimes it’s better to have a little distance between new parents and grandparents. The visits will be that much more precious.
Mary C in WA says
My Grandma used to say “cart before the horse”. When is the wedding? I’m glad that you get to be a Grandma. It will be worth all the trips back to visit, you will just love it! The book -What can I say- WOW, not a surprise that it sold so many copies. I saw it in a few of my Magazines and you have MANY followers here. No doubt that it would be a winner.
vickie van dyken says
Great News!! I can attest to your book being great. I have shared it with friends and encouraged them to get it 🙂
Now I have to tell you…If you knew how much FUN it is to be a Gramma, you would have done it first 🙂 It is amazing to me how much you love them. I found some baby pictures of my first grandaughter last night. She was on FB so I asked her…did she want me to post them? Discretion being the better part of valor, I asked first..LOL. She said yes, so I posted 3 of them and one of my son in High School…Then for kicks I put one up of me…when I was very young and a ballerina. It is so old it is in black and white!!! Not many guessed it was me LOL…..
The best chapter in your life will begin when the baby is here 🙂 I guarantee it!!!
Liz says
Congrats!
I like all the questions about baby quilt designs & book…You’re so used to doing the larger quilts, it will be fun to see what you come up with…. And just think about how the yarn stash will be used… Yea!
Perry says

Dimples will be wonderful for a baby!
Hugs and congratulations to the impending parenthood and grand parenthood.
Big full moon tomorrow night. Should be pretty out there in the country.
Paul says
Congratulations!!
And good on you for waiting… 20 years ago my mother heard we were expecting from a third party ten days BEFORE we even suspected we were pregnant. This woman overheard something, got confused, and immediately called my mother to congratulate her on being a Grandmother!
So, three weeks later, when we confirmed we were pregnant, we sent pink and blue carnations to my mother’s house to announce our news… She was hurt pretty bad, because she thought we had told her friend (who was basically a stranger to me) weeks before we told her… When in reality we told all of our parents (scattered all over the USA) on the same day before we said anything to anybody else.
That is not a pain I would wish on anyone. It took months to convince her that her friend was mistaken, and it was years before I felt forgiven for something I didn’t even do!!
Take Care,
Paul
Grace says
Congratulations on the book. And such wonderful news about the
baby. I bet the baby’s first quilt is already being planned in your head. Your first quilt for the baby will probably have non-specific colors because you will not be able to hold off on making a baby quilt until the baby’s gender is known. Then, once you find out if the baby is a girl or a boy, I would guess that you will make several quilts before he/she is born. Wanna bet?

Marilyn Smith says
Judy, congratulations on both counts! Being grandparents is so exciting and will be a wonderful new chapter to your lives! We were in the same boat and a bit surprised when our son told us we were going to be grandparents. We were fine with it but telling my mother was difficult. She was very old school in her thoughts, but she got over it and another grandson who moved in with his girlfriend before getting married. Anyway, the kids have been married almost 16 years and have given us two beautiful grandchildren. They live 2 hours away and we see them every 8 weeks or so. You are going to love being a Grandma!
Linda in Calif. says
Congrats! I’m really happy for you. The same happened with my daughter (cart before the horse) and it all worked out and now 6 years and two more children later who cares?
Linda in Calif. says

Erin says

Congratulations too to everyone ~ let the fun begin!!!!
Linda in TX says
Congratulations! And Congratulations! I LOVE your book and won’t let anybody ‘borrow’ it for fear I’ll never see it again. And our first grandson was an unexpected pleasure as well. The kids were so scared to tell us – when they finally did, I laughed and laughed and laughed. I told them I thought it was something really awful they had to tell us – that if this was the worst thing that ever happened to me, I’d be the happiest grandma around. We have two grandsons and their parents celebrated their 20th anniversary on 2/29/12. I ADORE my grandchildren and you will, too!
Brenda B. says
Yeah – congratulations!! It’ll be good seeing you if you have time 🙂
Elaine says

And congrats on the second printing of your book – it’s marvelous that so many people are enjoying your patterns.

Congratulations! You are going to be a wonderful grandma. I guess kids often get dates in the wrong order these days, but I think it was apparent from the beginning that those two were peas in a pod.
Your book has got to be the best book on pieced borders I’ve ever seen. I really like the ideas and the fact that it’s so easy to use them.
