This “building” was here when we bought the place. I’m not sure why it’s here or what they had intended to use it for.
It’s about 4′ wide and 12′ long. He’s thinking he’ll divide it almost in half . . maybe make one section 4′ x 5′ for the 5 bantams and the other section will be 4′ x 7′ for the 6 Dominiques.
Vince can fence off this area under the trees and split it up so they’ll each have a good sized run and some tree cover. We’ll probably have to cover it to keep them from flying over into the other’s run. Since we’re going to have roosters, we don’t want the bantams breeding with the Dominiques.
It’s not too far from the front of the house so when we’re sitting out on the porch, we could see the chickens and if there are roosters, and I’m sure there are, we won’t have any trouble hearing them crow. That’s a good thing . . at least for now! We may change our mind later about that.
There’s lots of work to be done to make it what Vince wants it to be but at least it’s a start and maybe if he can get the builder over here soon, they can get this thing made into a chicken duplex.

And he I was – hoping he’d turn it into my guest room!

Maybe it’s because I live in the middle of the covered bridge scenic route, but it looks identical to the little one they’ve got in one of our local parks… is there a stream nearby that someone could’ve been planning to put it over?

A chicken duplex….cool. Though it might be simpler to turn the roosters into chicken soup/fried chicken and let all the rest run together. Unless you want to set your own eggs for chicks next spring??

Looks alot like the shed on the Brady property-the guys use it to hang the deer for gutting and skinning!

Have you checked the zoning restrictions there?
Do they allow condominiums?
Because it looks like you are developing a chicken condominium complex!

This may sound stupid, but why is it a bad thing for the bantams and the Dominiques to cross breed? As you can probably tell, everything I know about chickens I learned from Colonel Sanders.

Dominique meat is good very good. Silkies meat is almost uneatable. But they are wonderful mothers. I used to set the hens with other eggs and let her raise them.

Sounds like a good idea to work with something that’s already built and modify it. Can’t wait to see how it looks when he is done with it.

Those chicks of yours are becoming real estate moguls! I’m always ready to rehab something that already exists.
