When we were getting ready to start packing in MO, I went ahead and packed all my own clothes. It was July and August and I kept out a lot of my summer clothes, and then packed the rest of the summer clothes that I wanted to keep out so I could put them in my car. I had most of them at the rental and then when winter rolled around, I mostly wore jeans and sweatshirts because it doesn’t get really cold here. Then when we moved from the rental in December, all the summer clothes got packed and I wasn’t real sure where they ended up. I’ve been wearing jeans and t-shirts.
After searching for days and days for my “decent” clothes, last night we went to our very small mall. I told Vince that if I could just find a pair of black dress pants, I could get through the coming events and hopefully I would find my clothes soon. I bought a pair of black pants but they have to be hemmed and I need them tonight!
About 9:00 last night, I was still running around searching everywhere looking for my clothes. That sounds kinda funny, huh? Vince said “Could they be in a wardrobe box out in the shop?” I explained that my clothes were not in wardrobe boxes because I had packed them myself in MO. Vince said “Didn’t we put some of your clothes in wardrobe boxes at the rental?” YES! I had totally forgotten about that. So, we went through several wardrobe boxes before finding my stuff. And, did we find clothes! All sizes — 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 . . I think it’s safe to say I’m never going to wear the size 6 things, the size 8 probably won’t get much use either. I went ahead and hung everything up but some of those things just may find their way to Goodwill.
What I did find that I don’t remember seeing in ages . .
The outfit we brought Chad home in! Oh, I miss my sweet boy! I need to give this to him so he can save it if he wants it.

What a special memory. I wish I had kept my son”s outfit, but I guess we didn”t think of it at the time. Glad to hear you found your clothes.
Doreen says
Hard to remember when they were that tiny! Sometimes it amazes me what items I keep and, then again, those that are not! Wonderful memories!
Sandy says
The outfit is so cute! But—I wouldn’t give it to Chad yet! He’s young and has no use for the outfit. If you give it to him now it’s unlikely that he’ll treasure it as much as you do. It’s sentimental to you, but not to him. You have all the memories of him wearing it when you brought him home and that is what makes it special to you.
Rose says
I agree with Sandy. Judy, just save it forever at your house rather than giving it to Chad at this point in his life. Should he be fortunate to have a son of his own, you are certainly going to want a grandson to wear that same outfit in a picture. By keeping it at your house you know the outfit will be safe. I would show it to Chad now as it is bound to bring a big smile on his face, but please put it in safe keeping for the future. You might even label the package so the outfit doesn’t accidentally get given away. The darling outfit is a treasure!!

That is one of the worst things about moving, is losing things – especially clothes!

How sweet! Over the years i have given things to my son and his wife which were from his childhood. His personal christmas tree ornaments the first Christmas in their own home; once they had their first child, his favorite stuffed animal; once they had 3 cildren (in 4years) i gave them @ 20 ornaments made of beeswax from antique chocolate molds (when he was very young, our ornaments were all unbreakable). I think they enjoyed receiving thise gifts at those times. I imagine your son will be delighted by your joy in giving him this treasure.
Btw, funny attire scavenger hunt!

LOL – BTDT – and even worse! When I moved from IL to MA – I had help (fortunately) – and due to a variety of circumstances was trying to get going without letting one particular person know exactly when/where I was going because I expected a lot of static – nothing a major problem – just royally annoying!
Anyway, I was in such a hurry that we had been on the road for about 30 minutes when I suddenly realized that in an effort to get all the stuff packed that I wanted to bring along, I had packed only my underthings – and had forgotten to pack my slacks, shirts, etc. which were all hanging together in the closet. All I had for outerwear was what I was wearing! And didn’t have a lot of very much cash with me either!
Back to the house – and sweat blood while the person who was helping me move raced into the house and grabbed what he could in 2 arms, back to the moving van and tossed my clothes onto the seat! And away we went!
Why didn’t I go in to get my clothes – um, well, if I had we would have been there another hour at least! with a lot more to move than what I had!

Chad’s outfit is adorable!
Look how many boxes you got unpacked while you were looking for your clothes. 😉
I know how much I hate looking for something that I know is there, I can’t imagine how hard it is to have to look through moving boxes. One day soon you will know where everything is. 😉

My mother kept my one of brother’s shirts when he was a baby. Both of his sons had their pictures taken in this same shirt. I thought that was rather neat thing to do and it pleased my Mother to no end.

I’m glad you found everything. I have over 400 boxes to open soon! LOL!

I’m confused; you can’t hem pants? Glad you found lots of clothes, you clothes horse you.
Judy Laquidara says
Yep, when I fell off that turnip truck, I must’ve bumped my head because I don’t know how to hem pants! Of course I CAN hem pants but I don’t WANT to hem pants and for those who haven’t figured it out . . I mostly only do the things I want to do these days. Additionally, I have half a dozen pairs of pants that are the perfect length that were hiding from me. Now that mine have been found, the ones I bought will be returned . . thank goodness I “couldn’t” hem them!
CindyM says
People (mostly my husband and daughter) are amazed that I can’t do simple clothing alterations or repairs, either! As I tell them, “there are people out there trying to make a living providing those kinds of services.” Some of those people starch and press my husband’s shirts, too.
Carolyn Thomas says
Cindy and Judy! You two are hilarious!!!!!
Fell off the turnip truck….. indeed! LOL

I’d keep that little outfit for a while longer. It doesn’t sound like Chad is in permanent quarters and you sure don’t want that treasure to get lost!

would love to be at your house unpacking. Oh, the things we find!

Hi. I’m making memory boxes for my three children that they will get on their 50th birthday. I’ll explain the significance of the various items. I’m also going to include copies of all the family genealogy papers I have. It’s also time to sort out all the family photos and write notes on the back as to who is whom. The boxes are nearly finished as I don’t know if I will be around when they each turn 50.

I love the sweet baby boy outfit. I wouldn’t give it to him now, though. He won’t treasure it. You save it until he marries and maybe he’ll have a baby boy that can wear it. It’s safer in your hands for now.
Kim Paventy says
I just cleaned out my closed this past weekend and found 1,2,3,4 and 6.
If I had kept the 1,2,3,and 4’s we could have opened up a used clothing store together !!!
lw says
Hang on to Chad’s baby clothes until he marries and his wife gets pregnant. Then, give them to her.
Linda says
I kept a few of my favorites from when my girls were infants too. When they had their babies, they were so UNINTERESTED their old clothes. They thought they were too old fashioned, compared to today’s trends. (My daughter was only 20 when she had her first girl. Even I had to admit that styles really have changed.) Oh well they are still nice memories. 🙂
glen in louisiana says
NO NO NO! Don’t give that to Chad……yet! He is probably not in the mind (or the space) to “keep” precious things just yet. I don’t give my DD anything because she tosses stuff. I told her she will regret that one day! And she is just at that age where she is beginning to. And that is age 27.
I have a funny story about my friend who moved to Texas, tripped coming down her stairs and hit the back of her head. She woke in the hospital with amnesia. Didn’t remember anyone or anything.
They took her home and showed her the house and the husband and the clothes in her closet. She furrowed up her brow, looked sideways at who they told her was her husband, and asked how many wives he had.
In the closet were clothes from size 6, to 8, to 10, to 12 and to 14!.

I really do love Chad’s little going home outfit. Even though they never wore it again, all of my granddaughters had a picture made in a dress I wore as a baby. My daughter also wore that dress several times when she was a baby. So as of now we have three generations of baby pictures in that dress and I firmly intend to have four generations if I am lucky enough to get to see that fourth generation. And since my family has been fortunate enough that several times there have been five generations alive at the same time maybe there is hope!

After many moves, I’ve pared my ‘treasures” down to a few things: My prom dress, my wedding dress, the 2 outfits I brought my kids home from the hospital in and the outfit I wore after our wedding reception on the way to our honeymoon. It was 1973 and boy, was it short!! We need to keep the things that make us reminisce about our favorite events. Glad you found your favorite things, Judy!
