Yesterday Vince had to go to Home Depot. I could write that statement every day because Vince goes to Home Depot every day! Every. Single. Day. I’m not complaining . . I only complain on the days I have to go with him. Nothing against Home Depot . . I love that store. But, I go in with a list. I get what’s on my list and I leave. When I go with Vince, I take my Kindle and I sit on the bench in the garden center and read. He takes forever!
So, yesterday Vince went to Home Depot on his way back to work from lunch. If you know where we live, where he works and the location of Home Depot, you’re probably wondering how he went to Home Depot on his way back to work. Only Vince figures things like that out. He called me when he got back to work and said he bought me a present. You know what I’m thinking . . please not another weed eater.
When he got home from work, he had me close my eyes and walk out to his truck. I love lavendar and he had ended up at Wal-Mart, which is right next door to Home Depot. They had gorgeous, big . . probably 3 gallon buckets of lavendar so he bought me 4 buckets. Then he decided that since the plants were so nice, we should go back and get more. We had 6 one gallon buckets of lavendar waiting to be planted so I kinda squawked about going back to town but then I reminded him that he promised we could go to Dairy Queen for dinner on Friday night. I’m such a cheap date.
Off to Wal-Mart we went . . probably 14 miles there, 14 miles back home, 14 miles back to Wal-Mart . . because I didn’t take my purse and Vince didn’t take his wallet!! At Wal-Mart, we got the remaining 2 lavendar plants, two more gardenias, more strawberry plants . . we’re never going to get done planting. There’s no end! Plant 20 plants, buy 25 more!
We got in the car and Vince said . . Let’s go to Santa Anna for steak instead of going to DQ. I preferred DQ because I still had to water the garden . . hadn’t done it in the morning because I was so sure it was going to rain but it didn’t. The chickens needed clean water and food and lights turned on . . I just wanted a quick burger and to get home but we went to Santa Anna.
The quilt shop is right next to the steakhouse and they were closed but as we were leaving, here’s their window scene:
What a life, huh? Sleep on a pillow in the chair in the window where no one can bother you! Vince didn’t even think it was real but it is!

For a minute I thought you were going to add a kitten to your ever-growing household!
Alma says
I love that boot quilt behind the cat. Would love to know more about that fabric.
I am allergic to cats so when I see one in a store, I don’t like to go in. Surely there are others in the same circumstances.

sounds like a fun day and a lot of planting to do!

I’m allergic too and couldn’t shop at the store or buy anything the cat had laid on. It’s a shame because I like cats.
Debi says
I’m with the rest – thought you got a kitten!!!
Roberta says
Yup, I thought you had a new kitty also to keep down the errant wildlife, well the little ones anyway. That’s the life of a cat!!!!
Now on the planting, you might want to spread that out over a couple years or in ten years you’ll have such a big display of flowers you won’t have time to quilt. 😉
Hugs!!!!

I was sure there was a kitty added to the ranch.Yes you may have to buy more acres if you keep adding more gardens.
Doreen says
I am waiting for you to post the schedule of tours of the gardens! I, too, thought this was going the direction of a furry purchase! My, how your life has changed since last year at this time!!!! I’m exhausted just reading about it! Hugs, Doreen

I pet her every time I am in that store. She is very friendly. The store in Slaton also has a cat.

I also thought that there was a new furry addition to the family. There are enough outside cats in my neighborhood, that i just watch them from the window and yell at them when they start stalking the birdfeeders.
I think I’ve seen online fabric shops where they specifically mention being “cat free”.

At first, I thought Vince brought a kitty home to you. Too bad the store wasn’t open. Stores that have dogs or cats seem friendlier to me.There use to be a quilt shop that had aplay area for little kids. I loved going to that store. But they change in what they sell. So sad. Are you going to be able to use all the eggs when the chickens start laying? Will you be selling or giving the egg away? You are really settling in. That is good. I think you have found your nest LOL:)

Glad it wasn’t a weedeater! I know what you mean about not always wanting to drive to town. Our Wal Mart is 8 miles away. At least I work in the same town so I go on my lunch too if I need anything.

I remember very clearly the days spend planting our city yard in Colorado – early Saturday and Sunday morning so we could go to the nursery and get more plants and spend all day planting. Oh, how I miss it, especially the very nice people who were so helpful and knew us by name – everyone knew the Deputy Chief of Police. I also thought for sure that your beloved Vince had bought you a kitty … would not put it past him, but then again, maybe there are reasons you do not want one. Happy weekend planting. JudyC

At CAAWS we use feral cats for people in the country like you who want barn cats to keep the mice and rats down. All are neutered so they need infusions of cats every once in a while. Since they are all neutered and spayed fighting amonst themselves is nearly eliminated. Every once in a while there is a contention over a mouse.

Yep, I, too, thought you got a kitty!
Have fun planting and enjoying your plants, Judy. I know you will!

I too thought you were going to say Vince brought you a new kitty! I am torn over stores that have pets. I love animals, but I don’t want to bring fabric into my home that has animal fur or scents – I have 4 dogs and they would not be happy at all.
Sandra says
That cat was sleeping under the long arn when we were there for the Retreat. On my and Pam’s second visit (yes, had to get more fabric), she came out and let us pet her.
Diana says
yep can you tell us the name of that quilt shop – if you did before I don’t remember, would love to find out directions for that boot quilt – my sis would love it

You know that The Home Depot is the “Man’s Mall” right? 😀
Christine says
I thought speck was getting a kitty sibling too!!
…but plants are a nice surprise also…
Linda in NE says
Really, you live on a ranch now, you need a kitty or two to keep mice down around the property.

In my hood, we gals joke about going to Home Depot or Lowe’s so often and have decided that you know you’re a true Red Neck Woman when you’d rather go to Lowe’s or Home Depot than the grocery store! If Home Depot or Lowe’s adds a grocery store, I’m in big trouble ….
Dar says
Oh, what a sweet picture. I don’t envy you all your hard work planting those flowers, but I do envy the beautiful sight they will make. I’m going to add some lavendar this year too, but not until I do my taxes! Lucky your man doesn’t mind helping plant things. That makes it easier and more fun.
Amy @ Heritage Homemaker says
Yep, thought you got yourself a farm kitty. WAIT! You do NEED a couple of farm kitties! They help keep down the mouse population and keep snakes away.
I love the pillows that that precious kitty is sleeping on. I may have to sketch out something like that and make one 🙂
