Sunday afternoon while I was working in the garden, Vince was putting finishing touches on the coop. The first batch of chickens, the ones we don’t have a clue what they are . . were getting pretty stinky in the shop. They were in a big cardboard wardrobe type box that was on its side and we were changing out their shavings several times a week but once they get to be about a month old, they’re producing stink like big chickens do. You know what Helen said . . what goes in come out!
Trim is painted, the hardware cloth is over the windows.
The egg door is double locked.
Hardware cloth is over the back vent.
And they’re in their new home!
They aren’t sure what to do but they’ll figure it out. They were looking so big in their box and now they look so little in the new coop. There’s still no fence up so they’ll be inside the coop til Vince gets the fence built. He has the stuff here to do it . . finding the time to do it is another story.

I know nothing of chickens and coops, but this looks like the Cadillac of coops to me. Well done, Vince and helper!

Way to go…..looks awesome! Having them “cooped” up (sorry!) will probably be the motivation Vince needs to get on the fence project, hmmm? You, both, have done so many great things so quickly….yes, quickly! Love your whole place! Hugs, Doreen

The little green chicken house and the chicks are cute, but the cutest thing is Vince peering through the side window with his booted legs showing. I looked at the photos twice before I noticed Vince grinning through the windows!
Barbara Green says
Love the paint job!

Do you have to put nesting boxes in there? At what age do they start to lay? I assume they share nests.

Pretty nice coop they have – Vince did great. They look like Rhode Island reds to me – good layers.

My babies got evicted from the house on Sunday. They have been outside in the barn 2 nights so far. They have their heat lamp, but tonight and tomorrow nights are supposed to be pretty chilly….I am a nervous Momma.
