In more ways than one! I love it when the National Guard is having a rip roaring event but this weekend they must’ve have 20 or 30 helicopters in. Vince says they’re Apache and all I know is . . they’re loud! I think those guys sit around and calculate what time we must go to bed and then they fire them up and start flying. Then they wait til we’re back asleep and they fly over again. Then, just to be sure we’re up bright and early, they started again about daylight. Friday during the day they kept circling over our house. Vince said they probably looked at that fence and think we’re growing something illegal in there.
But, the real reinforcements arrived this morning.
Poor Vince . . they won’t let him help do anything!
My job is to supply them with cold Dr. Peppers, brownies and lunch. Otherwise, I’m sewing and staying out f the way.
Dora, the quilter says
Yum! Cold Dr. Peppers (made with sugar, please), brownies, and lunch. Sounds great to me! Alas, I’ll go fix myself something else without the Dr. Peppers and brownies, and lunch of something else, and wish I weren’t so far away that I can’t just pop over and join them. At least it’s warm here today!

We live about 30 miles from a helicopter training base and get fly-bys almost every day. Sometimes they fly so low it seems that they will be landing in the yard (or on the roof). They used to bother me but now I hardly hear them unless I am outside.

The planes and helicopters are the sounds of freedom…may their landings always equal their takeoffs!

YAY!! Send them north to Amarillo when they are done at your place 🙂

I couldn’t agree more with Beth. Until leaving the Army 10 months ago, my son-n-law was a Black Hawk pilot. He is now “flying a desk” as an MBA student, and this semester he is in (gulp) my husband’s class. I think he found flying, even with bad guys shooting at him, less intimidating. Can’t wait to see the finished chicken coop. Your chicken stories bring back such great childhood memories.
Judy in Michigan says
What color will the coop be? They sure are lucky chickens!!

I can’t wait to see the coop! Dr. P and chocolate saved my day today too! Funny, how that works!

This is guard weekend for my son too, only in Ohio. They were headed to Camp Perry to qualify on their weapons. I guess it’s a yearly thing. His picture was in our local paper this morning. I am so proud of him!

When I lived by mother neff park we had helicopters flying over us at all hours of the day and when the army went to play war games we listened to the booming all night. One of the reasons we decided to move further away from Ft Hood.

I have lived on or near an Army base all my life (until retirement). Ft. Bragg was the loudest place, but man, I loved to watch those paratroopers! Our house was located directly in the flight path for the return to base. They shook loose some of the nails in the ceiling, but the most disconcerting thing was when they forgot to turn off the search light at night and flew over. For a long time I thought it was the police looking for miscreants lurking in our neighborhood! Talked to one of the pilots and found out differently. From there we moved to Ft Rucker, AL, the home of Army Aviation. Need I say more?LOL It is the sound of freedom. A small sacrifice on my part for them to be prepared to defend it.

One of the naval bombing sites is in the Ocala National Forest, which is about… oh…two hours north west of where I am. We can hear and feel the bombing. Drives me crazy. Sometimes they do it 24×7 for a couple of days. Shakes the ground, sometimes rattles the house. ALL THIS WAY AWAY!!
I wish there was something that could be done about it.

Can’t wait to see a coop progress pic!

Oooo! Nothing like men working! Especially when building a chicken coop. I can’t wait to see your feathered friends in their new home.

We get all the fly-overs too…when Ernie was teaching in California, he saw one of the arial/tactical maps…BURKETT was in big enough letters to be easily read! We’re in the center of the fly-over, training area. I love to hear them, don’t even notice them most times. Sometimes, they seem way too low and we wave…the cats no longer run, so I’m sure your new “chickie babies’ will adapt! Love watching the progress on the coop.
