Possible Designs

These are the designs I’ve come up with so far.  What do you think?  If you see a square that isn’t colored as it should be . . that’s just an oversight and I’ll change it when I decide which design I’m going to use.  Right now, I’m just coming up with ideas.  Would you tell me which one you like best and why you like it best.  I’m not sure if I’m going to go with the more teal blue or the more navy blue so please don’t judge the design by the colors but by the design.  They’re really all close to the same

  4. I think I like the first one best primarily because it loos the most traditional. I find that people who do not know quilts very well seem to respond to the most traditional patterns.

  5. 2. I like the way the design in the middle pops with the darker fabric having been surrounded with lighter fabric.

  6. Maybe because I’ve been stressed lately, but #1 makes me nervous…too busy, I guess. I really like #2, and I like #3 almost as much as #2. The more I look at #3, the more I like it! I love looking at your block combinations. You always find a fresh way to put things together.

  7. I like the first one. Like many on-point sets, it reminds me of an argyle plaid, (more so than the other two) which I think of as a masculine design. I assume this is for the gentleman who helped Chad with his car?

  8. Love the third one. Seems crisp and beautiful (if that is a way to describe a quilt??).

  12. I like #3 best–I like how the blocks seem to weave together in it, both in the middle and around the edges.

  15. Wow, all great designs and almost impossible to pick one.

    Think I’ll go with #3, no particular reason, I just LIKE it!

  16. I like #3. It is bold and it draws the eye to the center. I like the balance. I know you may change the colors but these are really terrific. Isn’t EQ wonderful ??? I love what can be done with that program. Being a draftsman, working with other programs, there are times that I wish EQ could do something for me, but I think as time progresses and they update the program I will probably get some of the things I wish for.

  18. #1 is my favorite, #2 next. Don’t know why but the centers of #3 remind me of ‘frowny’ faces. (You asked!)

  19. They’re all great, but #2 gets my vote. Why? Because I really like those small 9 patches in the center and how they contrast with the larger blocks near the border.

  20. I like #2 the best, but #3 probably looks more masculine, because of the brown being more prominent.

  24. I like the second one best. The first is too busy, and the third a little too ‘clunky’. The second has a good mix of bold and delicate and the center design gives your eye a good place to rest.

  26. #2 by a mile for me. It’s striking, soothing, masculine and not too busy.
    By allowing more cream (beige) in your design, the top becomes more neutral overall so can be used in a lot of decors. JMHO

  27. Well its a fight between #2 and #3. But when I stop and really put a reason to it I end up with #2 because I’m trying to picture it on a bed and #2 looks the best in my head on the bed.

  29. For a man’s quilt I like # 3 best. My first thought was # 1, but after thinking about it, that is too traditional.

  30. I like 1,3 and last 2. I think what I like about 1 is the lightness about the lines around the outside blocks. The others seem to have the dark fabrics in larger blocks which to me gives me a heavier feeling.

  34. I like the softness (actually it is more in the mid range of boldness) of the first one. It would be my choice based on what I use most. My second choice would be #3. It is a very bold looking design…if I had big bold decor it would be a first choice. For me, the second design combines soft and bold–but the softness gets lost and the boldness overpowers the softness. They are great designs as usual!

  36. I like #3 the best….I am not completely sure why…..I think it’s just a inside thing ?? Like which color is your favorite. I can’t say why I like the colors I do…..I just do! I don’t know why I like #3 the best….but I do. Not over analyzing just feelin it 🙂

  37. Hmm. . . they are all nice but I am more drawn to #1 and #2. . . .they seem “lighter” than #3.

    I’m thinking I like #2 a tad bit more than #1 because it seems a little less “busy”.

    #3 seems like it would be a wonderful QOV design — especially with the way you have it colored.

  38. #3, especially if it is for a man. They don’t typically like a lot of fussy stuff.

  39. haha my six year old grandson just looked at them…said “I think the top two are great for mom..the bottom for dad..it had bolder lines! It”s more for a man..” I guess I would go with Number 3

  41. I like the first one because it reminds me of a stained glass window. The colors are beautiful!

  43. Well I do not like number 1 at all at all…

    Number 2 is better and Number 3 is my favorite….

    I am thinkingtat the lttle 9 patches will get lost and if they don’t they will be toooooo busy.

  46. That is such a fun exercise…to have to put into words why I prefer one design over another. I like #1 the best. I love the effect of the 9 patch blocks on pointe in the center, and the strong vertical lines of the design. I like the center of #2 but not the outside blocks, and I don’t know why. And my problem with #3 is the cream fabric which seems to stop the flow of the design (to my eye). I do think the colourway of #3 is more masculine.
    I have enjoyed reading everyone’s ideas, and look forward to seeing what you make!

  47. I like #2 the best, followed by #3. The first one is too busy. The second one has areas of rest, which I really need in my poor hectic world!

  48. If I was choosing by color, I would choose #3 it’s bold and the design pops out with the red.
    But you asked us to choose by the design.
    My design choose is #1.
    It reminds me fo Mid Evil times and you would find it hanging in a castle.

  50. They all are winners. Use the one you like best but don’t lose the other two designs. You’ll have them waiting for SOME DAY in the future.

  53. I like number #1 the best. It is lighter and more balanced looking to my eye and to me it looks more intricate. Number 3 looks too bulky to me.Number 2 is nice but I think that I would like it better if the 9patches were in the inside of the border block instead of a solid square. Maybe why I like the first one is because of all the 9 patches. I think that people who don’t quilt ten to look at the overall design and number one seems to flow together better then the others.

  54. # 3 – for some reason, it has an auto theme to me, like a car engine with everything lined up and angular. Weird, isn’t it?

  55. I like the first one….except fpr the “pinked” looking edges. It has an orderly look. I see it in several colorways. I really need to learn to use my EQ7!
    All are great looking, but #1 is my favorite….with #2 a close second.

  57. I am voing for # 3. This is the one I like the best. This one really caught my eye and says to make me. But, then again you always make beautiful quilts, so it is really up to you in the end.

  59. I like the second and third designs the best! They’re lovely! The first design is different, but – sorry – not my cup of tea – at least at this moment (tomorrow may be different!)

    Of the 2 remaining – I think the 2nd looks like the most fun – and that’s the one I vote for (FWIW!)

  60. This is the first time you’ve ever posted choices that I can honestly say I can’t choose because they’re all fantastic! I do keep going back to #1, though………

  61. I like # 3. The larger pieces keep it from being so “busy”. I tend to shy away from quilts with so many pieces that it runs together, no sense of design. Just my thoughts and feelings. You do a wonderful job, Judy, designing and creating quilts. I have several of your designs on my “to do list” which is growing by leaps and bounds.

    On another subject, I’m so glad that you and Vince are enjoying Brown County now and living in Texas. Welcome to Heaven.

  63. I like the third quilt, a little more modern male. On matter which you make it will be charished.

  64. I like both 2 and 3, they are different from each other and you should make both. Number 1 my eye gets stuck on. It just doesn’t flow as easily.

  69. # 3 seems more “bold and manly” to me. But I also really like #1.

  72. well this is no help, but i like parts of all of them! but for a single quilt i like #3 the best.

  73. I like #3 best. It feels and looks to me to be more manly and eye catching..it is complex but not busy. My next favorite is #2.
    All of the designs are pretty nifty!

  75. I don’t know. I actually like all three. I think if I had to pick just one, I would go for number two. Maybe because of the nine-patch in it. I have a name for number one though :”Double Vision”. That is what comes to mind when I look at number one. I would make anyone of them. Still hard to choose.

  77. I love them all, but when I scrolled down to #3, it just popped out at me. So my favorite is #3, although I would love any of the three of them. I’ll just say it…Judy, you just don’t make an ugly quilt! Everything you make turns out gorgeous!

  79. I choose number 2 – I like the big blocks around the outside, and the contrast of the smaller blocks…. I really wanted to find a miscolored block – but I couldn’t see it…. *smile*

  80. I love how we all love different ones. #1 stood out for me. I love it.

  81. I like 1 and 2 because the main body of the quilt floats within the borders unlike 3.
    2 is my pick because of the bolder on-point design that is absent in 1.
    3 does not speak to me. I could be hard of hearing!
    Knowing you, you have already decided what you are doing and just want to keep us busy and out of your hair.
    No matter what you do, it will be wonderful.

  82. I like the 2nd one the best……the 1st and 3rd are too busy your eyes can’t settle….I also like the navy blue it seems richer…..

  83. A little late to the game, but here goes: My favorite is #1…love the colors, the overall look and I like small pieces. I also like #2 and since it doesn’t look to have as many little pieces it should be quicker to make. #3 really doesn’t grab me…too dark maybe??

  87. I like #1 because I like 9 patches and Jacob ladder looking blocks. Also because it would look good on any bed whether it was centered or not. the last 2 are pretty but would have to be on the bed so that the middle was in the middle. (sounds silly but I know what I mean).

    i would be thrilled to get any of them and I sure these nice folks will be too. You always come up with winners!

  89. I like the third design. It has less of a square-in-a-square feel and seems quite original.

  91. #3 It looks more masculine and if he a mechanic he will like trying to figure out how all of the pieces go together. All of the designs are winners but #3 is my favorite

  92. i like #3 the best…it is unusual. #1 is too crowded in the middle. i like #2…..but #3 is the bomb! LOL

    I like version #1. It’s complex, but subtle. They are all wonderful, but that’s my FAV!

    I so enjoy your blog, your life notes –quilting, cooking, chickens, your pics of your dear hubby in his clogs (Love them! My guy wears them, too, w/ white sox!) You even got me knitting socks!

  95. I was all for #1, but then I saw #3. I like #3. I am not sure how to explain. It’s bold. I just felt it had more impact than the others. I’m sure that whichever one you choose, they’ll be overwhelmed to receive such a gift.

  96. I’m drawn more to #3; I find the small 9-patch settings in #1 & #2 more disconcerting/distracting/busy, though additionally, I do like the blues combo in #1.

  98. I like #1 best–it’s just so much fun to look at.
    However, if I think about loading it with custom quilting, I’d go with #2 or #3.
    That is said ignoring the fabric colors but considering the shading/value.
    It will be fun to see if your commentators come close to a majority decision.

  99. I like #3 – the first one looks too “aztec-y” for my tastes and the 2nd is bordering on “aztec-y”. The third just looks more traditional, am I lean towards traditional.

  100. I would go for #2. It is masculine and very striking. Traditional with just enough spark to make it interesting.

  101. I like #1 the best — most traditional and more small pieces, which almost always make a quilt more interesting. I like #3 the least, for the opposite reasons — just a lot of large pieces… not ineresting at all.

  103. I like 3 the best, closely followed by 2. The first one is just a bit too busy for my taste. Whichever you choose, I know you’ll make it beautiful.

  104. I love either 2 or 3 – #3 seems a bit more masculine. Have Chad and Nicole choose the winner!

  105. #2………. I like the more open look of the middle and the whole quilt looks less busy than the other two. Which ever one you choose, the recipients will receive a wonderful gift.

  106. I like #3 best – I like the way I see crosses pop out. Also there arent so many very small pieces.

  109. #2 Judy. It’s a “strong” looking quilt – very masculine. I also like the simplicity of the design. It’s just a winner all around for a guy who did such a good thing for Chad (and you!).

  111. I love #1. I’m not sure why really except the other two look kind of large and clunky to me. I hope I didn’t offend you but you asked. The designs on all three are good, I just like #1 the best.

  112. I choose # 3. I think it would also be a great QOV by changing to reds and blues.

  113. I guess i like #2 the best. #1 seems a bit too busy with all the little squares in the middle . #3 just makes my eyes “funny”- something about the small stripes against the bigger bolder edges. Does that make any sense? 🙂

  114. How funny how different the answers are! Isn’t that what makes quilting so interesting? We all like different things… and if you are like me, you like different designs on different days. Keeps me interested in the greatest hobby in the world!

  117. #3 just appeals to my sense of order more than the others. There is just that certain something that grabs me. It is my choice.

  122. I like #2 best. And I have to say that color is what attracts me to a quilt or design and also what makes me NOT like a quilt. Pattern, for me, is always secondary.

  125. I was initially drawn to #1, but the more I look at them, I think I’m really liking 3 the best…..I just really like the contrast between the wide and narrow piecing. Honestly, though, they’re all great designs!
