Finally, yesterday I was able to work on my March Color Palette quilt. The design I came up with uses one block that’s on a “3 grid” so it works well for a 9″ block or a 12″ block. The alternating block is on a “5 grid” so it works best on a 10″ block. I went with the 9″ block but had to do some tweaking to get the alternating block to work.
I made the first block and made a couple of changes, then made the second block to be sure everything was working perfectly.
As with the previous two palettes, these aren’t colors I usually put together but I’m loving how this project is going. I’ve been wanting to make a basket quilt for a long time.
Last night I made all the half square triangles, 170 of them, and got all the pieces cut for the 17 basket blocks.
If I stay on track and don’t spend too much time gawking at the baby chicks, I could get quite a few of these blocks done today. Speaking of the baby chicks, I had forgotten how funny they are. Yesterday they learned to “scratch”. They’ll scratch in the shavings and back up to see if there’s anything there worth eating. There’s nothing but it keeps them busy. By the end of the day yesterday, they were running full speed from one end of the box to the other. They’re so funny to watch. Oh . . right . . I can’t watch baby chicks all day . . I have basket blocks to make!

Just think of it as making a block for each little baby chick and you’ll be done in no time!

Not sure who is more curious to watch……the chicks or the ‘human’! That is going to be one stunning quilt!!!! Hugs,

When I look at this quilt I cant help but think about your baby chicks and the phases they will go through colorwise as they get their feathers.

I can’t wait to see this quilt. This basket quilt block is one of my all time favorites! (which reminds me of a UFO I need to get back to…..)

Looking good, Judy! I’ve got to make 264 HSTs today. I’m insanely trying to make a triple feathered star this weekend, but I’ll have Marsha McCloskey there to help me if I get stuck! I took her class a few years ago, but will take it again this weekend. She lives about two miles from me. I’m a lucky gal.

I am completely over my skepticism about your color choices–but then I know you and should have remembered you have never made a quilt I haven’t loved. Can’t wait to see the sides and borders develop

We must think along the same lines…That’s the same block I’m using for my February Color Challenge project! Two more baskets to go. I have a plan sketched for March, but am making myself finish February first.

and then comes the snazzy sashings, and the fabulous border…
this will be a hum dinger of a quilt!

This is going to be a great quilt! I love baskets! It has been a long time since I watched baby chicks. They grow fast – so enjoy while you can!

Basket blocks are my weakness. I love baskets of all kinds, love basket blocks. I am working on a basket block collage with different basket blocks of different sizes, shapes, styles. I just love this one, I might have to make it.

My goodness!!! I don’t know how you get it done 🙂 My desktop decided that it was not fixable….So I have been messing around all day, with wires, wires and more wires. I have my laptop plugged in so I can use it with my giant monitor….instead of the 15.5 in. that is great for a laptop….not so good for publishing and doing other clerical things for me and my guilds….Okay, I loaded Office Pro on the laptop, to get One Note and Publisher. It had (the laptop) come with the modified version of word….which works for the laptop…not so much for the desktop….put a couple of other trucking programs oh and Quilt Pro on as well..wires are looking in some order, I can use the laptop with the big screen, mouse and keyboard….I think I will wait til finances are better and then get a touchscreen all in one and lose these beautiful wires…..Now I must quilt!! Love your color choices for this months challenge. I can’t say I have used them in a quilt….but I enjoy watching, while I am finishing my quild challenge and on and on 🙂
I think I need to post the quilt challenge…..maybe I need suggestions. It is a Colorful Beastie!! LOL ..off to the sewing machine.
