Can you tell I’m having lots of fun with the Color Palette Challenge? For March, my fabrics have been chosen. I’m not real sure how my fabrics work with the rules but instead of having one yellow, I have a yellow and a yellow with orange . . kind of a transition into the orange.
For the color next to the black . . that one gave me fits. Since it’s important that I use stash fabric, what I have will have to work. Next to a brown, that color looks gray. Next to a gray, it looks brown. There are no taupes in my stash, though a taupe would work. One of the blacks has a dot which is kind of a taupey brown. If I need a taupe or a brown in my design, I’ll use the brown in the stack but if not, I’ll just leave it out. My gray is mottled and has a little of the blueish gray that’s in the palette. I hope the quilt/palette police are ok with my choices!
You would have thought I could have lined the fabrics up to match the order of the picture but no . . mine are backwards.
The outer black is a solid. The one next to it is the one with the taupe dots. The reason for the second black is that I don’t have enough of the black with dots.
The pale yellow on the left will be my background fabric.
What do you think about my choices?

They will make a lovely applique quilt. 😉 With the browns as the borders and sashing. You can see where my mind is. 😉
Hugs!!!!

Great colours! I’m loving these challenges too. Certainly pulling me out of my comfort zone, but so far, 2 for 2 in results. This palette is giving me fits – I have no brown that works, and what I have is giving me dark quilts in EQ. I like the light you added – I may try that too.

I had to go back and look at the original picture of the piece you were trying to match. The picture in front of your fabrics doesn’t read the same–I think it is the computer. The original picture looked red to me and the one with your fabrics looks coral. I think the quilt will be fine with these colors (I see the yellow which I had missed on first glance), but this one was a real challenge. February you hit it right one and I have no doubt if seen “in person” you colors are fine. Can’t wait to see the pattern.

I struggled a little with the same taupe color as you did. I came up with similar substitutions from my stash as well. I think your color’s will work wonderfully. And if the quilt police come after you, I’ll be next on the list. 🙂

I think you have made very nice choices and if the quilt police show up………..who cares! I’ll look forward to seeing the pattern you choose.

I think this looks like a nice bargello quilt. I have an easy fat quarter friendly bargello pattern that I got from the Fons and Porter magazine and have made several times. I think this would be perfect.

I love your choices!

i can see why you added the extra yellow in there. it will be a really good transition between the gold and the tomato red.
and if you really neeeeed a taupe, i have an old London Fog raincoat that would just fit the bill. just sayin’……hehehe.
ps. in the color palette pic that grey looks more of a silver or matte aluminum foil shade to me; the same tone of fabric that you see as a background for white snowflakes. Judy, you’ve got so much fabric in your stash, are you sure you don’t have a bit of silver? i can’t imagine you not having a color in your stash. if you have any white in your stash that you could dye, that might do the trick.

I always print out the colors that are posted for this challenge and my printer is just a little off color-wise. I just get as close as I can to what’s pictured and go from there. I’m only making a block each month but I think I’m going to love the quilt I make from those blocks!

The colors this time seem harder than the last one. Our guild got a fabric bolt donated from the lqs. They decided the challenge (at the Board meeting I missed) we had to use 5 other fabrics…….and the challentge fabric….awkkkkk I chose lots of bright colors from the challenge fabric…..and made a 10 minute block….that is UGLY 🙁 my friend Thelma, one of the owners of the lqs that donated the fabric…said , trying to help, or feeling guilty about giving us that fabric, “well maybe it will look okay when it’s quilted”…LOL maybe it will grow on me to….like a wart!! hahahahahah I’ll try to post the block soon…….I’m just saying it is colorful 🙂
