All these years and my buttermilk pie recipe never made it to the blog. This is such a good pie and tastes nothing like buttermilk.
Buttermilk Pie
Ingredients:
1-3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. butter, melted
3 eggs
2 T. lemon juice
1 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt
1 – 9″ pie shell, unbaked
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in the order given. Mix well and pour into pie shell. Bake at 350 for 1 hour or until brown. Filling is set when a light crust forms on top.

Curious, if you didn’t have buttermilk on hand would you use the vinegar method of souring milk for this??
JudyL says
Can’t say. We always have buttermilk around here.
Kathy Wilson says
Sounds good Judy. Did you calculate the points for us? 🙂
Susan says
This looks yummy and easy to do. Question…do you use a homemade pie crust or a frozen one? Your crust looks great!
JudyL says
I usually use a homemade crust because (1) I want a pie when I don’t have a storebought crust here and (2) I like homemade better but honestly, if I happen to know ahead of time that I’m going to make a pie, I sometimes use a storebought crust.

Oh sheesh, I’ve not had buttermilk pie in ages, may need to make one soon! Thanks for reminding me.
Peggy says
That looks so good, but a whole pie would be too much for me and my DH won’t eat it. I can’t remember the last time I baked anything other then bread. I think I need to buy a small pie pan and make 1/2 recipe.
Susan says
Your crust looks yummy too…..care to share your pie crust recipe with us?
Linda in NE says
Looks yummy! I only ever have the powdered buttermilk on hand. Would that work? Reconstituted, of course.
Rebecca says
Made it today, and it was a hit! My friends liked it better than the fudge pie with pecans I also made.

Marilyn says
I made a buttermilk pie during the Christmas holidays. I added a little cinnamon and loved it that way, too.
