Posting from the iPad hanging over the deck railing. Not easy! It’s so darned hot and dry and brown here — not pretty and quite upleasant especially since this house has some pretty significant a/c problems. The homeowner is working to get things fixed and I’m so hoping we have cooler air by early next week. We do have working toilets, sinks and showers now but I will tell you about that when I am not hanging over the deck.
The crockpot is buried and I can’t find it anywhere. Still haven’t found all the pots and pans and can’t find my sugar/flour canisters.
Everyone here is so nice! I’ve talked to Chad and Nicole several times and they’re fine. Speck is doing great.
The cell phone booster arrived today but doesn’t work til the internet gets installed which doesn’t happen til next week. Slowly but surely, we’re returning to normal.
Laurel from Iowa says
Hey, if it’s hot, who needs flour anyway?? No one needs to bake until the a/c gets fixed! I’m a new follower to your site and love how you make the best of a less-that-good situation. Give Speck a pat from northwest Iowa!
Happy Room Diana says
I have so been hoping all is OK with you. We are having too much rain here in England would you like me to send you some?
kwiltnkats says
Sounds like it’s time to find the bottle opener…
Laura says
Now that’s funny!
marion morgan says
That’s Texas in the summer and this has been a bad one. The people are great as you know and this drought will pass with time (hopefully in your lifetime there). SO good to know you have a house, a computer, even if hanging over the railing, and hope for better AC and a crockpot (buy one) soon. I don’t envy you, but you’re great at making the best of any situation.
Karen says
sounds like problems with the rental – hope all gets fixed soon!

i cant tell you how HAPPY i am to hear that you’re “surviving” down in TX! as silly as this might sound, ive been really worried about you and Vince (and Speck of course!) getting settled. but i feel better knowing that at least you’re together again!
Sandra Neel Hutchins says
Bless you Judy.
Jane says
Ditto what Sandra said. Hang in there. Things will eventually become normal.
Pam says
Just don’t hang too far off of the railing!
Keep hanging on!
Hugs to you, Vince, and Speck.

things could be worse….
you could be in VA with lots of us breathing in the smoke from the Dismal Swamp fire every time a door opens. we’re hoping for rain this weekend, or a change in the wind direction. meanwhile i’m staying put inside.
at least you’re dealing with stuff that can be fixed, and not with Mother Nature.
JudyL says
Oh, believe me, Mother Nature isn’t being kind to us. Extreme drought with water restrictions, livestock is dying, if the area doesn’t cut back on power usage, there will soon be rolling brownouts. Brownout in Brownwood!
carol fun says
Hope you get things sorted out soon – there are always so many little details that need to be taken care of. I’m smiling at a visual of you hanging over the deck trying to type on you ipad — funny!
Linda in NE says
Run out to Wal*Mart & get a couple window ACs until the house AC gets fixed. At least some of the house could be cool. I’m sure all the AC repair people are working overtime & who know how long it will be.
JudyL says
This is a lake house and has huge windows, which adds to the cooling issues, but there’s not a single window in which a window unit could be placed. We’re lucky that the bedroom end of the house does stay cool.
Judi says
There are portable a/c units, my kids have one for their shed for when he works in there. Another friend has 2 for her garage they work great.
Hilary McDaniel says
Judy, I’ll second buying the ac. We bought a small one from HD and it’s been a blessing this summer. We leave the regular ac @80, but the bedroom @68. Our bill hasn’t risen because our bedroom is in the back of the house and is easy to close off. Now we wouldn’t think of going thru a summer w/out our ac in the bedroom. Food, that I can do without, not ac/ Good luck getting back to normal. I can’t think when all is out of whack. I feel for you.
Marilyn Smith says
When you find your crockpot – plug it in out on the deck! I do this every summer to keep the house cooler. Hope they get your AC working correctly soon. It is miserable being too hot!
Peggy says
I can’t believe you must wait until next week for internet. Doesn’t TX know you are FAMOUS and have lots of people who check several times a day to find out what is going on in your life. Does that mean I NEED TO GET A LIFE??????
Hope your AC problem gets fixed soom. I know how it is to try to sleep, work or play when you are hot.
Kathy Alden says
I would look for the wine bottle opener, sit on the back porch, click your heels 3 times and hope all is unpacked by the third click!! I did that on our many moves!! Let me know if it worked for you!! Glad you are finally there and semi settled. Pet Speck!
Kate says
I third buying a window AC – you can stand the heat in other rooms if you have one place to get cooled off, or to hibernate when it gets unbearable… indulge yourself just a little bit… and take the stress edge off…
But so glad you are at least ‘home’, and the fact that you are looking for the crockpot is good… you’ll discover it soon enough. Kate
Chris in South Jersey says
If window A/Cs can be had now, I’m sure Vince will find a bargain.
Cindy B. says
Wish I could say: Slowly but surely, … returning to normal.
Soft launch of new business since February and getting near to full out … kiss your rump goodbye … I said what?! launch.
You know how to find missing stuff, right? Just buy new and the old will reappear.
Best Wishes!
Cindy B.
Perry says
Is this one of those 3 steps forward, 2 stepsz back times? Certainly sounds like it. Surely it will all come together! Maybe I better start rain dancing again. We have finally had some their past week, which has helped us somewhat.
carol c says
yes its dry and bad
48,000 head of cattle were sold last week
last year, this week, only 28,000 were sold
so buy your meats and freeze
may not be any
isnt Speck with you all Judy?
I saw a truck from somewhere selling baled hay from another state, in bales sq. on the side of the road, pickup loads were
being sold fast. We are really beginnign to be a dust bowl.
Brenda B. says
It’s really hot here, you must have taken all the dryness we had been enjoying with you, it’s been really humid all week – ugh. Glad you found a place and things are starting to come together. Stay Cool 🙂
Karen says
So glad to hear from you. I have this visual of you hanging off the deck and typing – don’t fall! Hope everything settles down soon. I hate to be hot.
Marilyn says
I hear you about not being able to find things during and after a move. I finally got a wee bit smarter in the last move. I numbered each box and got a notebook. Each page had a number and listed what was in the box. It didn’t have to be in great detail but it worked better than just writing misc. on a box!
Hope your a/c gets working soon. We are in Ashcroft, in BC, a small desert community and the temps can get pretty hot here too. I am enjoying your blog.
Jocelyn says
Well I have to say that I’ve been checking your blog every day to see if you are getting settled in. Bummer about the AC. Hope it gets fixed quick.
