Cooking is as much for me as is quilting . . though cleaning up after cooking is not so much fun. With Vince gone and Chad rarely home, there hasn’t been much cooking going on around here and I miss it.
There’s a wine that Chad and I both like, and I’m not much of a wine drinker. Chad had one bottle of it and we can only find it at Macadoodle’s and since this is what Macadoodle’s looks like now:
. . we decided to have a celebration and consume the last bottle of the wine. Nicole didn’t get off work til 9:00 p.m. so we planned for her to come here after work and just spend the night . . no drinking wine and driving though she didn’t like the wine. She’s not a drinker either. I fixed baked potatoes, spinach salad, had steaks ready to grill at 9:00 p.m. and we had our wine and talked about all the places we’re going to miss in Joplin. Chad is mostly going to miss Pizza by Stout. There was no place that I go a lot that was lost and since we’ll be leaving the area while there’s still so much destruction, I’ll always remember the tornado when I think of Joplin. Maybe we’ll plan to come back after it’s all rebuilt so I can get a new image in my head.
What’s a celebration without a Red Velvet Cake? It was nice to get out my mixer and my cake pans and make a cake!
It was very good but I don’t think I want dinner, wine and desert again at 9:30 p.m. any time soon!

Celebrating the good memories with favorite people is always a good a idea.
Now I want cake. 😉
Wendy says
I love cooking, too. And that Red Velvet cake looks to die for. Do you have a recipe posted?
Karen says
Red Velet cake is my favorite. My mother always made one for my birthday. Seven years ago she had a stroke and the only time I have had red velet cake since then I had to make it. Enjoy your memories.

It’s 6:45 a.m. in Washington state and I want cake for breakfast. I LOVE red velvet cake and yours looks totally delish! I had a roommate in college, who when stressed, would bake. She would throw what she would call a “berserker” and fix giant cinnamon rolls or red velvet cake and we’d stuff our faces. Good times.
Karin says
Haha – I’m laughing at Pat – I am in WA state too – and I want cake for breakfast after looking at that pic too! I’ve got dough for cinnamon rolls going though instead 🙂
So, Judy, does this mean Chad is coming with you to Texas?
Chris says
Well, I’m in Idaho and it’s almost eleven so no cake for breakfast. 🙂 And I have this weird allergy/thingie: red dye makes me, well, it makes me mean! Yup. I eat something with red dye and a few hours later I go looking for a fight. Just ask my husband! So, no red velvet cake for me. Ever!
Meanwhile, more to the original theme of your post… I love to cook, too, and when Dan is out of town, like he’s been most of this month (he’s home, so it’s safe to mention it!!), I don’t cook. I eat standing up (bad, bad, I know!), and have been known to eat stuff cold, right out of the can. The only good thing about it is I usually loose weight because there’s no good stuff around. 🙂
Chris says
Opps, that would be *lose* weight! But my clothes do get *loose*-er!

That cake looks awesome, of course I am dieting and I think at this point I would lick the bag a piece of food comes in!!! Love hearing about your house hunting…prayers are with you and Vince.
Marla says
Yummmm! That cake looks so good! I love good cake but no one in my family really cares for it and I dare not bake one unless I have company coming or it just keeps finding it’s way in my mouth. I must have missed something along the way,…is Chad coming with you? If not, where will he be living?
Connie says
Ok, so what’s the wine? Cake looks good too, spinach salad sounds extras yummy!
