Beth Made Me Do It

Show & Tell at guild meetings always bring on a burning desire for me to go to a quilt shop.  Most of the time I’m able to control myself and stay away.

I’ve never really made a cute quilted type bag of any kind and Beth, one of the very sweet girls at a guild I visited for a few days last week, had the cutest bags and she often teaches bag classes.  The lady I was staying with had made a really cute bag so I was already having bag fever when Beth brought out a couple more bags to show me.  I was hooked and then she offered to take me to the local quilt shop, get the pattern and get the supplies and, of course, since I didn’t have access to my stash and was anxious to get started .. even though I have two quilts with me to bind and add the hanging sleeve, and a whole quilt top to make, we rushed off to the quilt shop and bought everything I needed to make two bags.

This is the pattern she suggested I start with.  It’s Grids & Grommets from Indygo Junction.

This is the fabric I got to make mom a bag.  The fabric at the top will be the lining and maybe the strap . . I cannot remember but will figure it out.

These are the fabrics for my own bag.  The top fabric is for my lining.

When will I get these made?  I don’t have a clue!  Soon I hope.  Now you see why I added fabric to this week’s stash report.

  2. I made a bag using the grommets and it was sooo easy and added pizzazz. the quilt shop had brown and silver grommets. Your blue ones look pretty cool!

  3. Looks like a fun project. A bag I’ve got waiting to finish is two, no, three yrs. in the making. Will I get it done for this summer?? I’m ever hopeful. 🙂

  4. Judy – who manufactures the colored grommets? I’ve been looking for them but was only finding really small colored ones.

  8. I have that pattern – bought it at the Knoxville Quilt Show last July. Everytime I think I’ll start on it – I can’t figure out which size to make. Looks like you’ve chosen the “strips” version. I love making bags/purses.

  9. Those are just too cute. Oh, how I wish there was more time in the day. I could really use a new bag. Maybe I could. Maybe I will. I’ll put that in my think about list. I really like the fabric you chose.

    I just got my Kindle!!! Early birthday present. Yipee!! Can’t wait to get to reading on it. Your enthusiasm for Kindle convinced me.

  10. Bags are SO addicting! Love the fabrics you picked out. Cant wait to see it done up. I have grommets, so I must have bought a pattern for them ….hmmmm….guess I should look into that….

  14. I bought this pattern at the Shop Hop last year, Middle of the Mitten (Michigan). Now that I am off work with a broke foot, I plan on actually getting it done!

  15. oh, Judy – you remind me of my last move – the uncertain feeling of the transition triggered a fabric buying spree!! (of course, I am susceptible to that particular problem, anyway).lol…

    I can’t imagine all the ‘stuff’ swirling around your head – glad you enjoyed spending a few minutes thinking about making a purse!!

    We are all rooting you on during the move and the house hunt.

  21. I’d have to pull it out but I think that’s the very same pattern I bought about two months ago. Mine hasn’t been made yet either. But even funnier is that I just bought the very same grommets two weeks ago at the Sewing & Quilt Expo in Schaumburg, IL as well as some purple ones. Of course, I had already bought grommets when I bought the pattern so it’s not like the lack of them was stopping me from making that bag. LOL

  22. I just figured out how to leave a comment on your blogspot! I’m so glad you enjoyed your time here in Louisiana. I’m working on my Morning Splash trying to get it finished, then have to make 3 or 4 bags. Then back to quilts again. Never enough time. I’ll post a picture to what is on my design wall this weekend. Please let me know next time you are headed to Louisiana and we will have to do the Road to Brownwood quilt!! I was going to send you a picture of one of the Grids and Grommets small jelly roll bag I made, but can’t figure out how to send you a pic? Beth
