You’re going to need 36 of this segment:
And you’ll need 18 of this segment:
If making strip sets and cutting the strips into segments, you’ll get 16 segments per set so making 2 strip sets will give you 32 segments and that means you’ll need 4 extra so you can either piece those using individual 2-1/2″ squares or make a partial strip set. No need to waste the entire strip set.
For the second segment (yellow/orange/yellow shown), you’ll also get 16 segments per set and you’ll need 18 segments so you’ll have to make 2 more — either a partial strip set or piece using individual 2-1/2″ squares.
The cutting instructions includes the extra pieces you will need to make all the segments.
Fabric 3 (Green) – Cut 5 – 2-1/2″ strips
Fabric 4 (Gold) – Cut 5 – 2-1/2″ strips
Fabric 2 (Orange) – Cut 2 – 2-1/2″ strips
Make 2 strip sets using Fabric 3/Fabric 4/Fabric 3. Cut those strips into 32 – 2-1/2″ segments. Make the extra 4 segments to end up with 36 segments. Press the seam allowance towards Fabric 3.
Make 1 strip set using Fabric 4/Fabric2/Fabric 4. Cut into 16 – 2-1/2″ segments. Make the extra 2 segments to end up with 18 segments. Press the seam allowances towards Fabric 2.
Use the segments to make 18 nine patches. Press the seam allowances away from the center (towards the Fabric 3/Fabric4/Fabric 3 strips.

Hi,
I have been reading and salivating at your quilt pattern: Making ends meet for the past week or so. I got a few of my friends from the internet to start looking in their stash for fabric for this quilt. We were to start sewing this pattern in about two weeks. But today, I can`t find the widget on the left or the pattern anywhere. I am at instructions number 2 right now, I can get to instructions number three, but that`s it… Could you please tell me where we can follow the whole pattern…? What a beautiful, beautiful quilt!
Thanks,
Pat
