What a sleepless night! You can bet I’ll get a nap in at some point today.
My plan was to be up at 5 a.m. sewing but I didn’t convince myself to get up til 7. Everyone else around here is still snoozing and I hate to make noise sewing but . . as soon as I finish typing this, the noise will begin.
It was after midnight when I went to bed last night. I’m now over halfway done with getting the star sampler put together. Went to bed, went right to sleep . . for about 10 minutes. The weather radio went off which was only the first of about 100 times that it went off. Lightning was horrible all night. Wind and hail and tons of rain. The tornado sirens never went off but it sounded very scary outside. At 2:45, this vision of myself in my worn out-not for public viewing pajamas crossed my mind. You know how you see people on TV after the tornadoes? I got up and put on a T-shirt and some lounging pants but by now it was getting HOT without the a/c or fan going. I believe this is the first time we’ve lost power for more than a few minutes in the 18 months we’ve been here.
Then I decided that if everything blew away, I’d want my glasses so I tried sleeping with them on . . that didn’t work either.
At some point I finally fell asleep again. When the alarm went off, the fan was back on . . which means the power was back on. I looked out the window, expecting to see lots of storm damage but I saw none. Amazing!
It’s dark and stormy looking outside now.

I hope everyone has a great time during the quilt-a-thon!! I have 2 young grankids for the weekend, so no sewing will be done. Instead we hope the rain stays away so we can hit the park and maybe some ice cream tonight….

What a rough night you had! Sure hope that is all past you now and that you are able to get a nap in today. I have been sewing already this morning. Finished up a couple QOV blocks and those are in the mail now. I have my challenge fabric all washed, now to get it ironed so it is ready for July 1st. Have some socks to work on today and want to get the binding sewn down on a table runner that I want to give as a gift.

Yesterday I cooked a ham and a pork roast so we are set for meals(All you southern women talking about food made me crave BBQ pork sandwiches from my 3 years in Arkansas!). The house is “clean enough”-which is better than usual! I have a quilt that needs binding, one sandwiched and ready to quilt, one cut-out and ready to sew and one that I picked-apart this last week…sigh(it was sewn on an old machine a few years ago and I just don’t have confidence in the stitches but I still love the fabric,so what else could I do?).
My quiltathon will start with a trip to the library to get some inspirational quilting books.
Happy sewing,Ladies!

It is almost noon here and I haven’t done a quilty thing yet, but this afternoon I will go to my Quilt Studio and work on cutting out pieces for a new quilt – and I will think of all the women around the country who are also working in their quilting space. Nice to have company!
Hanne says
I am glad the storm did not make any harm to you house.

Went to the library and got a TON of quilting books and also went to the post office and what was waiting for me? Two great books: Kaffe Fassett’s Caravan of Quilts and Quilts from the Selvage Edge by Karen Griska(which is just what it sounds like-quilts made with impossibly skinny pieces of selvage!).
Have been home long enough to iron some binding, machine stitch one side on and am now ready to do handstitching until I have nothing but claws on the end of my arms!
Am alternately watching Gilmore Girls and Grey’s Anatomy DVDs.
I hope I can keep-up with all you speedy quilters out there!
