How about we do a UFO Challenge for 2018 that can be anything you want to add – any craft – anything? It can be a mix. You can have some quilting, some knitting, some rug hooking, sewing – whatever you want to add is fine – just so you have 12 things on there and it will be done the same way as 2017.
- You make your list. Include photos if you like.
- If you have a blog, you can link up in a post I’m going to do on December 10. It will remain open and you can go back to it and add your list at any time, just so it’s done before January 1.
- On the first of each month (reminders are appreciated!), I will post a number and that’s the UFO that you work on for that month.
- Share progress along the way and help keep us all motivated.
Mine will be all knitting and hopefully I’ll do better at finishing knitting. There are no police. I don’t go back and check to see who’s finishing up their projects. No “Naughty and Nice” lists around here because I think you would know who would be at the top of that list when it comes to finishing projects before starting new ones.
How nice would it be to have 12 UFOs finished by this time next year?
Anyone want to play along?

When I first saw the header, I thought you were going to saying that you weren’t not doing a UFO challenge in 2018 and I was going to suggest a mixed challenge (knitting and quilting). Then I open up the email and that is exactly what you are purposing. I’m in – thanks for being Chief Motivator.

I haven’t participated before but would like to in 2018. Mine will all be quilting/sewing projects, and I think prioritizing those and taking photos will help with the motivation. We’ll see, anyway! 🙂

I’m in once again. It seems to help me get things finished….but i believe I trashed 2 or 3 things this year and substituted something else. i guess that is a help also….clear out the stuff i no longer am interested in. i really, really need to finish up those projects that are soooo C.L.O.S.E. to being done. sigh!! because, we all know, i won’t stop beginning new things. i need a clone!

I’m in! I just started quilting again in the past few weeks after about a 2 year hiatus. I got two quilts to finish by Christmas. I used fabric I already had but came up with new patterns. I had a set of fabric i bought for a specific pattern I couldn’t find so it was a challenge to find something that would work with the fabric and amount I had on hand. I ended up purchasing EQ Mini to work it all out and make sure I had enough before I started cutting. But I got a variety of unfinished projects – quilting, home decor, knitting, furniture projects, cub scout related, etc. So anything goes works for me.

Yeah!!! Even though I wasn’t successful with this past years challenge, hope springs eternal for me. I love mixing knitting and quilting.

I’ll try to get er done!! I have many in need of finishing and because my finances have been significantly altered I am not in the position I was to buy new stuff..so count me in… gotta get that list filled up!!
Carolyn in Texas says
Count me in. I will be the Rug Hooker plus two quilts that need to be made before April. Thanks for including rug hooking?
Maggie says
I’m in! I had a momentary thought that I might not have 12, but then I laughed and the thought passed.
Joyce says
I’m in! (Especially since I anticipated you announcing this…LOL)
Judy D in WA says
Even though I was a big ole failure at my 2017 list, I’m in for 2018! Now to put on my thinking cap……What do I want to work on.
Julie in GA says
I wasn’t very successful with my 2017 UFO list, but it can’t hurt to try again. Mine will all be quilting/sewing. I love the idea of including a variety of needle crafts.
Kathy Hancock says
I’ve never done this before, but I’m overrun with UFO’s. I’ll be doing quilting, sewing and jewelry related projects.
Sherry in NC says
2017 was a big bust for me! Hardly touched a thing. But I’m going to give it another try. I’m going to work on different kinds of projects. Not on a number basis but what I feel like working on any given day or week or month.
Hope this year goes better. Might help me keep up with my blog too. I think I only wrote one post last year and it was about last years UFO Challenge. LOL Good luck everyone!

I’m in again. It does at least help me think about a project. I actually made progess on 9, so that’s good. Hope springs eternal.
jennifer in PA says
yay! I was worried you’d give up and not do a UFO challenge this year! I love the extra -friendly pressure to get stuff/projects done! I always work better with a deadline, so this is great! I finished 8 out of the 12 projects from 2017, so that ‘s a plus! thanks! looking forward to getting more stuff done!
Judy Laquidara says
Good for you! I hope we can all do as well next year.
Nelle Coursey says
I love this idea! Sort of reminds me of when we used to do the “Secret Santa” at work. Except we gave a gift to our friend each month. Didn’t have to be much but the next year we could not draw the same person’s name. Some of them were really funny! And we didn’t let anyone know who left the gift. They had to guess during the year who their secret pal was! It was so funny the way we all tried to hide the gifts at work and not let anyone else know who our pat was! We even had one lady who retired but she kept sending her gifts each month! We did have one woman who was uppity and very picky. She didn’t appreciate the home made soap or candles her pal made for her. I thought they were beautiful because she took the time to make them. But that is just me, I love things other people make and sometimes I keep them forever! LOL But if you don’t like them you can re-gift them. We made a pact to not spend over $25 for the final gift. The others were between $1 and $10.
Katie Z. says
I don’t have any UFOs left after this year! I loved your challenge as it helped me tackle my massive hand quilting project. I will have to hunt up some projects to list for 2018.
Jennifer in Indy says
I think this is great – glad to see it continue and I have a lot of cross-stitch finishing to do, so it will be good to add some of those to my ufo list!
Nancie says
Judy, thank you for agreeing to host the UFO Challenge 2018. I need weekly accountability, so my projects don’t turn into “Attempts with no progress”.
Deana says
Yes yes. I was hoping you would still do it.
Suzanne says
I am ready for a new challenge….sign me up!
Jeri Niksich says
Well, I messed up somehow (not unusual for me) I listed my 12 items and can’t find where I posted them so I guess I’m out of trying to finish up what ever I had listed ? such is my life. I’ll just sew what I think I put down and leave it at that. Happy New Year’s to everyone!!
