There’s a pattern with my knitting lately . . and it isn’t a good pattern. First, I started the gold Hitofude and after 4 repeats, I ripped it all out. I couldn’t visit with Chad, Nicole and Addie and knit on something that required more attention that I could give. Then I started a pair of Monkey socks for my Loopy Academy socks.
After finishing my third repeat, that pattern just wasn’t what I wanted to do. For Loopy Academy, we’re supposed to make a pair of socks, either top down or toe up . . whichever method we’re least familiar with. I’ve done both so I convinced myself that it didn’t really matter but in my heart, I knew that I could knit a pair of top down socks without ever looking at a pattern and though I can get through a pair of toe up socks without saying bad words, I am less familiar with that method. I still have to use a pattern. And, while patterned socks are pretty, I find it relaxing to knit plain socks and almost always have a pair sitting around at some stage of completion.
So . . I ripped out the socks and started over . . toe up!

I feel the same way about knitting patterned socks. They are pretty, but I dread working on them so I just knit plain stockinette now. At least that way there will be some finished socks!

And hardly anyone sees the tops of the socks since my pants legs are always covering them. Knitting socks for me is relaxing so I’m sticking to plain stockinette for now.

HI Judy, love your knitting projects and must say that it is you that inspired me to take up knitting again. I love the Monkey socks but haven’t tackled them let but will one day soon. What is the knitting pattern that you are using for your toe-up socks? I have only started one pair and want a simple toe up for all my newly acquired handpaints.
Thanks for the inspiration.
