First, is anyone still working on Carabe? Who all finished a Carabe in the last month or so? Share pictures please!
Second, is anyone planning on doing Blue Sand with me next month? I had hoped to get a little jump start on mine so I could be a step ahead of anyone else beginning January 1 but I’m not sure that’s going to happen. Blue Sand will be hard for me to finish in one month but I’ll give it my best shot!
Now . . what’s on and off my needles. The chicken mittens are finished and they are adorable! The pattern has not been released yet. I will let you know when it is. These mittens are so fun to make and they’re so very simple. One mitten could easily be made in half a day. The pattern, as written for me to test, including two sizes: 5-6 and 8-9. I used one size smaller needle for the body part of the mitten and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a close enough fit that Addie (2) will be able to wear them. They will be big on her but should fit her perfectly next year. I love the inner cuff to hopefully help keep snow out of the mittens and help keep her sweet little hands warm.
Next on my needles is Kynance Cove. This is the same photo I shared the other day. I’ve done a few more rows and think I’ve decided to do one side of the button band with ember and the other side and neck band with the dark greenish gray (faded parka). That yarn is Madelinetosh DK and I love the yarn and the colors. I want to finish this sweater so I can wear it this winter but if I don’t get it finished, and start Blue Sand in January, this one is probably not going to get finished. Knit faster! But . . I really want to make some Christmas cookies over the next few days too! Just not enough time to do everything.
Priority on my needles right now is a test knit for Laura Aylor. You can’t tell much about it right now but it’s a cowl neck pull over.
The yarn is Knit Picks City Tweed and it’s Aran weight so it should go pretty quickly. I think this could be my go to sweater for every time I leave the house and need something more than a T-shirt.

I HAD TO PUT CARABE ASIDE AND FINISH A FEW CHRISTMAS GIFTS, STILL WORKING ON A HAT. WHEN HAT IS FINISHED I’LL GET BACK TO CARABE, WHICH IS FOR ME.

I resisted the knit along and will have to resist the next one too. But they are both on my someday list. 🙂
I want a a pair of those mittens for myself. They are adorable and Addie is going to love them.
Both sweaters look fabulous!

Hi Judy, I was just wondering how you store all of the handmade sweater, cowls, and shawls you make? I have a habit of just piling them up on a shelf but then when I want to wear something I have to sort through them. Do you have a system that works?
JudyL says
No good system. I put them in a Rubbermaid tote with bay leaves and lavender, hoping to deter moths, and keep them in that during summer but this time of year, they all seem to be spread out on the extra bed.

I made a sweater from the knitpicks tweed and loved working with it and have worn the sweater a lot but the yarn has started to pill. I used the rest of the yarn for reading mitts and knit with smaller needles and they are not pilling as much as I have worn them.
have a great Christmas

I have some much more expensive yarn that pilled like crazy after having worn the sweater once. I ordered a sweater shaver that helped a lot.
Do you remember what size needles you used on your sweater?
Judy S says
Love those chickens; they are really fun! Have you seen the hedgehog mittens? They are cute also but quite a tedious knit. Worth it in the end though.
Amy (Waunaknit) says
Not done with Carabe. Would like to start BlueSand in January but will depend on my conscience (finish some WIPs or start a new project). Love the colorway you’re using for the test knit. We need some knitting elves to help us finish these projects.
Cathy says
I’m still plugging away on Carabe, just have to finish the second sleeve. Did you have any problems with your button band pulling up? Mine does, quite a bit. I’m hoping blocking will fix it.
