There are enough of you who are interested in doing the scrappy challenge with me that I will make it a blog project.
Here’s how it will work:
- On the 2nd of each month, I will post a block, along with some ideas for completed projects. Only the instructions for the block will be provided. You may make the block larger or smaller if you wish.
- Make 1 block and use it as a hot pad, make 3 or 4 and use them as a table runner, make a few more and make a lap quilt . . make as many as you want to make.
- Use your scraps to make as many blocks as you want or as many as you have time to make.
- On the 26th of each month, I will post a “Call to Action” which will mean it’s time to stop working on blocks and get the project finished. It would be nice if the projects were finished . . as in quilted and bound, but let’s at least try to have the top completed, even if it isn’t quilted and bound. One of my goals is to end up with no additional UFO’s at the end of 2014.
- On the last day of the month, I will post a link box so you can link up to share your projects. I will ask that only projects made using the block for that month be linked.
Anything I left out?
I will add a box in my sidebar so you can click on it at any time and get back to this page.
Links will not be active until the blog posts have been made.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I’m in! (Right hand up) I’ll do my best to not acquire any more UFO’s than I already have =}

sounds great to me! i have waaaaayy too many tubs of scraps that i need to use up, so making scrappy blocks each month will be a pleasure.
Sherrill says
Or if you decide to combine all blocks into a sampler/s then you just wouldn’t post the month’s completed project, only the block?
Debbie says
Goody! Looking forward to this. (Remembering not to overwhelm myself). Worst case or best case, actually, is that I can make blocks and donate them to our Guild’s community service group!

I have been only using my stash/scraps for the past 5 years and have shoeboxes with strips/squares of various sizes-1-1/2″ through 5″ neatly stacked on shelves so that I can get them out right away and have a head start on any scrap quilt I make! But, others who have told you not to just cut 1 yard pieces into strips and squares immediately are right! What I do to add to my shoeboxes is cut down the leftover partial strips & remnants from a quilt and use those for them! Easy clean-up after a project!

Belated Christmas greetings to you Judy! I’ve been a very inactive blogger this year and these past few days I’d been cleaning up all my collected scraps and cutting them into usable strips and squares. It is very serendipitous that I got back to reading blogs today and saw this post of yours! I am in! Thank you for thinking of this.
Susan says
Sounds good to me.
Chris says
I can’t wait to start. I have a lot of 2″ and 5″ squares, along with all kinds of odd size scraps.
It will be nice to make something with them.
Ruth says
Sounds like fun. On another note, thanks for comments about roaster. I have one I need to be using!
Amy M says
thumbs up!
Audrey says
I would like to do what Sherril said about putting the blocks together like a sampler with a finished quilt at the end of the year.
Marie Gilkey says
going to try and do this every month. Like everyone else, have plenty of scraps, just don’t always have ideas to get rid of them.
CarolEngeron says
I’ll give it a try. Maybe I’ll actually finish something. LOL
Julie in Tucson, Arizona says
This sounds wonderful! It will be a way to get some Christmas gifts/stocking stuffers done for next year. You have a great idea, Judy!
Sharyn says
I will definitely join in thanks Judy! I missed your first “call to arms” but now I am answering!!

I just discovered your site…..it is wonderful. I love scrappy….it ‘s amazing how many items you can just make with them. Sometimes I wonder why I have sooooo much yardage when I make lovely items with my scraps!!
