In the past few days I’ve had several folks ask me about stitching the binding down by machine. This is a video I did a number of years back. If you’re wanting to try finishing binding by machine and haven’t watched it, you may want to. Any time you want to watch it again, there’s a link on the right sidebar under “Tutorials”.
ALERT! I have an accent and if you haven’t heard me talk before, you may be surprised and, you’ll hear Speck whining a bit in the video!

Good video. I will try that on a quilt that is currently waiting for binding. Thank you and by the way, I love your voice and lovely accent.

Thanks for the video, Judy! I’m definitely going to try this with my next quilt… I hate having to sew the binding by hand.
Laurel from Iowa says
Cool video! You don’t sound anything like I thought you would :>)
Debi McIntosh says
Thanks Judy – that was great – I’ve been wanting to try this method – maybe on my next wall quilt that is awaiting binding!
Anita says
I didn’t hear an accent. Maybe we just talk alike. Good video.

I have been binding my quilts by machine ever since you first posted this video. I love the results! Thanks very much for sharing all of your knowledge with your readers.
Sharon in Michigan says
Wow, how cool was that! I can’t wait to try it on my next binding. Love your voice and no, it’s not what I expected at all. Funny how you follow someones words and pictures and seem to get an idea of how they should sound and are totally surprised at what you hear. Great tut!

I have tried machined binding a couple of times and it looked AWFUL! I may try it again one of these days using your tutorial (on a donation quilt). I didn’t really notice your accent. Must sound too much like Texan to me! HA
Rose says
Ohhhh I just LOVE your accent 😀 Thank you for the video, I’m going to try doing th binding like that on my next quilt.
Jane says
Love your accent too!!! :-).
Thanks for the video! I have hit and miss luck with machine binding but will try it this way on the quilt I have ready to go!!
Joan in NE says
Will have to try this out on my next binding. I had not seen this done so will be a new technique to add to my quilts. thanks for sharing.

That is so neat. I’ve read about machine stitching bindings but couldn’t figure out how it was done. Thanks. BTW, I didn’t notice an accent. Just that you sound so young.
Mary Jo says
I don’t notice an accent…maybe because I am a southern girl too!
Mel Meister says
I forgot about this video! Thank you!
JoEllen says
Thank you for the video tute! I am definitely going to try that technique on the next donation quilt I make!
BTW- I read all your posts and enjoy them so much! I am happy to put a voice ( with accent) to the posts!
Susan says
Coming from LA, I should have known you’d sound southern. It’s definitely not a Carolina accent, just a little soft southern. =) Thanks for the video lesson.
Robbin says
Thanks for the video. You make binding by machine look like I should try it again. I usually end up with a mess on the back with some o f the binding caught and some not.
Robin says
Accent – I didn’t hear an accent at all.
Thank you for sharing the video – I love hand sewing the binding down, but sometimes wish I could do it quicker. I will try this next time I am in a hurry to finish.
Gail Frenz says
Thank you, Judy. That’s the best machine sewn binding I’ve seen. I’ll definitely be trying your method!
Mary-Kay says
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that video but I know I’m going to give it a try. Your binding looks great, all nice and even. Thanks for the tutorial.
Eva Lyn says
How funny, I was just watching your video last night! I’m getting ready to put binding on a baby quilt. AND I did notice your accent! You sounded exactly like I thought you would. Thank you for the great video BTW. I’ll probably put the binding on after work tonight as it too hot in KC to do anything outside.
Linda W says
It must be baby quilt time, as I also have the binding sewn on the front side of one and was going to hand stitch the back within the next few days. I’m going to give your technique a try, as it certainly would save lots of time. Thanks for the video!
Patti says
Enjoyed the video. You said you cut your strip at 2 1/2″ inches wide. How wide is the finished binding? Or to put it another way, what is your seam allowance when you make the first stitching? Is it 1/2″ or something else? Thanks Judy!
