That Darned Web Page

Grab a beer and some Kleenex because this is one sad story!

I’ve had the same hosting company for about 5 years and was relatively happy with them til a few months ago. They were switching over from vdeck version 1 to vdeck version 3 and they’d tell me they were moving my account on such and such date and that my web page might not be available for a day or so. Then a week later, they’d send me another e-mail saying the same thing. I’d write to customer service and twice they sent me back info that was about a website totally not mine! I called one day — thankfully a toll free number — and was on hold for 3 hours and never did talk to anyone. I just put the phone on speaker and went about my business.

As you might imagine, they were not rating real high on my list of companies I enjoy doing business with. Yesterday they wrote me that some of my files were corrupted, which of course didn’t occur while they were trying to migrate my website but just happened for no reason. Fine, I can fix a couple of files.

Oh, how wrong I was. By the time I deleted this and deleted that, nothing was working. I tried again to reach customer service and hung up after 2 hours of holding because I had already found a new host for my website, paid them and filled out all the forms to switch things over.

At 2:00 a.m. I was in the middle of rebuilding my website. That’s not tally a bad thing because my website, even though it worked ok, was just a mess if you looked at all my files. I truly don’t know what I’m doing with websites and know just enough to get myself in trouble.

By 2:30 a.m., I had something up on my website that looked decent so I went to bed. This morning, about 6 a.m., I hadn’t had enough sleep and I had this wonderful idea. Nope, it wasn’t so wonderful. As soon as I finished admiring what I had done last night, I did a little revision and accidentally deleted it all! Not only did I delete what I had done, but I also deleted the additional domain names that the new host had gotten in the right spot for me last night.

Now it was time for some serious action! I went to the store and bought a dozen donut holes and some kettle corn! That really helped! 🙁

I have part of the website up and running again. I haven’t checked it yet and I know there are mistakes but at least I have something up! And, you can bet it is all backed up and if I delete something tomorrow, I’ll just re-install from the back up . . after I go get more donut holes! 🙂

And just a minute ago I turned the TV on and the weather man said we’re going to get 6 – 8″ of snow tonight and tomorrow morning! What? I’m out of touch with the world for one day and a snow storm sneaks up on me! Oh, well . . not much I can do about it anyway. They didn’t say anything about ice and 6 – 8″ of snow isn’t going to cause any problems.
